The Ysleta Independent School District is the second largest school district in El Paso, Texas serving more than 44,000 students in a culturally diverse, family-friendly community. The district offers innovative instruction, state-of-the art facilities and a safe and secure educational environment. The Ysleta district has grown from its humble beginnings as a rural education district with one high school and a handful of middle and elementary schools into one of the major school districts in the state of Texas. YISD has 62 campuses, which sprawl through an urban area stretching from northeast El Paso to the east and southeast areas of the city. The district employs 8,000 administrators, teachers and support staff. YISD is committed to providing students and educators resources that will ensure academic success and prepare students to compete in the 21st century global society. The YISD Teacher Laptop Initiative puts laptop computers in the hands of every teacher. The new interactive website is an excellent resource for employees, students, and parents to get connected with YISD. A district-developed web tool called PowerParent allows parents to keep track of their child’s progress in school with up-to-the-minute status on grades, attendance, community service hours and class schedules. As YISD continues being an educational leader, sustainability has become a priority within the district providing classrooms and campuses with recycling bins. YISD also encourages parents to “go green” and subscribe to email newsletters to save paper. Del Valle Elementary is the newest school in the district and is pending a Leadership in Energy/Environmental Design certification. This means the school features the latest, innovative technology and engineering to be an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly facility.
