About Stewardson-Strasburg CUD 5A

Description provided by the district or community — not part of the NCES dataset.

Stewardson-Strasburg School District was formed in 1950 by consolidating the Stewardson and Strasburg School Districts. The district encompasses the communities of Stewardson, Strasburg, and part of Mode, and is located in Shelby county in south central Illinois. These communities rely heavily on Agriculture and related business for their income or travel to Effingham, Mattoon, Shelbyville, or Decatur to work in manufacturing or service industries . The 2000 census shows a total population of approximately 2400 in the two communities. The school district has long had a good reputation for providing a quality education for its students. Small class sizes help to provide more personal instruction. Community pride is shown through its strong support of school activities, strong inter-governmental cooperation and low crime rate. Parents organized a local PTSA during the 2008-2009 school year. The school is a member of the National Trail Conference and has had a strong competitive history in Volleyball, Baseball and Basketball, with interest in Track, Cross Country and Golf growing. Junior High Girls Basketball was introduced in 2008—2009.
