The mission of the Adelaide L. Sanford Charter School is to ensure that young people in Newark reach their highest educational potential through a standards based curriculum; a school culture of achievement and a continuous improvement; and a nurturing environment - all of which will enable our students to become Newark's future leaders and core professionals. We are both African and patriotic Americans. Our ancestors have diligently and heroically fought in every U.S. war, and we too must diligently uphold the American dream of freedom, justice, and equality for all. We are humanitarian leaders in the multicultural dream. Dr. Ivan Van Sertima of Rutgers University taught us that: "We were here before Columbus." Dr. Martin Luther King says that "your culture is your sense of being, and your civilization is your technology." ... to be as our creator made us, with a mind to study to show ourselves approved, African in body, moral in soul, and renewed in spirit. As dedicated Americans we unite our country with these humanitarian global interests in a world that is getting smaller and smaller due to advancements in space age technology. We strive to equip our children with the tools that would enable them to pursue the American Dream whilst being rooted in a strong sense of self and self worth.
