Maritime Academy Charter School is located in the northeast section of Philadelphia between the Betsy Ross and Tacony-Palmyra bridges on the Delaware River. The school takes advantage of the tremendous resources in the city to expose students to opportunities offered by the Philadelphia waterways for careers, leisure, and study. Students learn through hands-on projects, interdisciplinary classroom lessons and computer-supported curricula in an atmosphere where every member of the school, its community and parents are focused on supporting learning. Four (4) basic principles ensure a positive learning environment at Maritime Academy: Shared responsibility and accountability; Leadership and character development; Encouragement and accommodation of diversity; Integrated learning opportunities for students. Maritime Academy Charter School (MACHS) provides students in grades 4 through 12 a rigorous academic program with the special theme of maritime studies. MACHS students work with the latest technology to learn maritime content such as nautical science and maritime business, while achieving to high standards in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and the Arts.
