HELEN THACKSTON CHARTER SCHOOL

The motto we follow at Lincoln Charter School and Helen Thackston Charter School is "Two Schools…..One Vision" because we are committed to providing a free public choice educational option to students and parents of York. "The mission of Helen Thackston Charter School is to provide a challenging, enriching and meaningful curriculum that educates, nurtures, and respects the individual student and the diverse community of learners in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. It is our belief that the ultimate ability of our students to achieve success lies in the commitment of the school and the community working together to create an environment that promotes academic excellence, civic responsibility, character development, leadership, and confidence, as well as a love of and appreciation for learning." Helen Thackston Charter School was approved and opened in August of 2009 to 195 students in grades 6 and 7. The school experienced many successes in the first year of operation, including making AYP, the first public middle school in York City to do so. At the start of year two, Helen Thackston grew to 410 students in grades 5 through 8.
