About PEWITT CISD

Description provided by the district or community — not part of the NCES dataset.

Pewitt CISD was established in 1950, and it serves mainly the Naples and Omaha areas. These communities are located 15 miles east of Mount Pleasant, 50 miles north of Longview, and 50 miles southwest of Texarkana. The school district covers more than 240 square miles and includes parts of three different counties: Morris, Cass, and Titus. The Pewitt CISD is made up of three schools: Pewitt Elementary, Pewitt Junior High, and Paul H. Pewitt High School. All three schools are in good standing academically with the Texas Education Agency and all three have recently met Adequate Yearly Progress as defined by the federal legislation of No Child Left Behind. Pewitt CISD has a tradition of excellence in academics and extracurricular activities. Paul H. Pewitt High School offers a wide variety of academic disciplines and offers five advanced placement courses and two pre-advanced placement courses. The Texas Educational Excellence Project (TEEP), based at Texas A&M University-College Station, recently listed Paul H. Pewitt High School among the top 100 (64th out of around 1,500) high schools in the state of Texas. Pewitt has captured and competed for state championships in recent years in several extracurricular activities. The district has captured University Interscholastic League state championships in class AA in football and one-act play in the last few years. We provide a safe, supportive, learning environment and at the same time deliver a quality instructional program that helps to meet the needs of each individual learner. We use sound, research based principles of learning and employ multiple motivational techniques in order to help foster a desire for knowledge within each student.
