Reagan County Independent School District is a large AA district in Big Lake, Texas. It is located sixty-five miles west of San Angelo and eighty-five miles southeast of Midland. The boundary of the Reagan County Independent School District parallels that of Reagan County. The District has a combined (K-12) enrollment of 729 students and a staff of approximately 140 full-time and part-time employees. The District enjoys a below state average student to teacher ratio. The average years experience of teachers and the average years of experience of teachers with the district are considerably above the state average, exemplifying stability and continuity of the staff. The District consists of three campuses and is consistently rated Exemplary/Recognized. The Elementary School consists of grades PreK-5, Middle School is made up of grades 6-8 and High School consists of 9-12. The campuses are upbeat and energetic with innovative programs. All campuses offer a safe learning environment with an emphasis on discipline. RCISD is proud of its excellent students and supportive parents. RCISD focuses on instruction and attention to individual student needs. Teachers and students set academic goals and strive for success every day. In high school, the district offers many curricular choices including Pre-AP and AP classes as well as concurrent courses for college credit. Technology is important in RCISD, offering full-time tech support and ten computer labs district wide. There is an emphasis on intensive computer instruction for kindergarten through grade twelve and the District offers two distance learning facilities. The District participates in UIL District 2-AA and offers a full range of extracurricular activities, including academic UIL competition, athletics (eight sports), band, Industrial Technology contests and One-act play competition. Extracurricular activities are encouraged to round out the learning experience at RCISD. Reagan County ISD, through the Board, Administration, Faculty and Staff, is dedicated to the education of every child in the community.
