Rockingham County Public Schools are community schools supported by parents, business partnerships, civic groups, community organizations, local colleges and universities, and the Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc. All Rockingham County Public Schools are fully accredited by the VA Department of Education. The four high schools offer students a variety of opportunities to earn college credit while in high school, including dual enrollment classes, Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and virtual learning courses in all major content areas. All middle and high schools offer alternative education programs for at-risk students. The Character Counts program has been implemented in all elementary, middle and high schools, and students are recognized monthly for exemplary character. All elementary schools offer a Pre-K program for selected students who are four-years old by September 30th. RCPS has over 4,500 computers, which are deployed in every classroom, office, library, and computer lab.All middle school students take two yearlong computer technology courses. The Career Cluster Program provides a focused program to assist participating students with a seamless transition from school to work. RCPS is supported privately by the Rockingham Educational Foundation, Inc. The Foundation contributes approximately $75,000 annually in support of a variety of school initiatives and student scholarships. The Rockingham Educational Foundation provides a Teacher Supply Depot for classroom teachers.The Depot is a warehouse where teachers can select hundreds of free items for classroom usage. Amonthly community newspaper called, ETC... Is published to keep community up-to-date on items of interest pertaining to the Rockingham County Public Schools. All teachers are required to possess eight Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel. Many teachers have achieved certification based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. Rockingham County employs 10 teachers that have earned certification as master teachers by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Approximately 43% of Rockingham County teachers have advanced degrees.
